President Donald Trump’s administration is moving to block the California ballot initiative that would legalize medical marijuana in the state.
Trump signed an executive order Monday that would block any state ballot initiative, but the president has signaled that he plans to continue enforcing federal law.
The Trump administration has not said what actions it intends to take in the coming days.
The California ballot measure would allow medical marijuana patients to access marijuana at licensed dispensaries that have been approved by the state Department of Public Health.
The initiative would allow people with a debilitating medical condition to receive cannabis oil to treat their symptoms, including pain and muscle spasms.
Proponents of the initiative had hoped to get enough signatures to qualify for the Nov. 8 election, but they fell short.
